When we have a beautiful treasure like Lake Poinsett in our backyard, it is hard to keep it a secret! People travel here from across South Dakota and beyond to enjoy camping, fishing, swimming, and boating on the beautiful waters of Lake Poinsett.

There are important benefits to bringing in tourism to the lake. Tourism generates revenue for our local businesses and governments. It can also create a shared passion for the lake, ensuring people care about protecting it. 

On the other hand, tourism can also create problems for local residents. Tourism can bring the development of undesirable businesses and activities, and it can also strain our existing public utilities and services. More people in the area also means more traffic on the roads and the lake, too. 

As we look to Lake Poinsett’s future, we need to strike a balance between the economic benefits of tourism and the impact of tourism brings to our area. The Lake Poinsett Management Plan will help us chart a path forward to protecting the lake and the lifestyle we love.
